What if the solution to your overwhelming to-do list was sitting right there in your phone?
I learned this technique from a software team leader who handed us blank paper, colored pencils, and set an old-fashioned egg timer for 15 minutes. "When this rings, we stop and share ideas," he said.
It was the most productive collaboration I'd ever experienced.
Now I use the same process for everything important:
Step 1: Pick your most important task.
Step 2: Set your phone timer for 15 minutes.
Step 3: Work with complete focus - no interruptions allowed.
You'll be amazed what happens. First, you'll get more done in 15 minutes than most people do in an hour. Second, when the timer rings, you won't want to stop.
Use it 4 times a day - morning, noon, afternoon, evening. That's an hour of high-value work that actually moves the needle.
The lesson? We're drowning in busy work because we never protect time for important work. Fifteen minutes of focus beats hours of distraction.
Your most important work deserves sacred time.
PS - What's the one task you keep putting off that could change everything if you just gave it 15 focused minutes? Try it this week!
I love this. I’ve actually been using a version of this in my personal life without even realizing it. We’ve had some stubborn dry patches in the front lawn, so I started setting a 15-minute timer for soaks—just enough to give those spots attention without wasting water. While the timer runs, I head inside and knock out other things that matter. It’s amazing how much better things get with small, focused bursts of effort. I’ll be applying this in my work life too. Thanks for the reminder!
